Industrial robots - reduced speed
In December last year, the German Commission for Occupational Health and Safety and Standardization submitted a proposal to the DIN Standards Committee for Mechanical Engineering, Robotics Division, to supplement Section 22.214.171.124 of ISO 10218-2:2011 "Industrial robots - Safety requirements - Part 2: Robot systems and integration". The Standards Committee is requested by the Commission for Occupational Health and Safety and Standardization to take this proposal into account in the revision of the standards series currently underway.
"There is no indication of the danger of a fault in the control system. The standard should demand its actual intention more clearly. This means that within the scope of the risk assessment it must be checked whether safe control of the reduced speed is required."
The Commission for Occupational Health and Safety and Standardization proposes to formulate the text of the standard in Section 126.96.36.199 as follows:
In the 'manual reduced speed' mode, movement of the robot or part of the robot system shall only be possible in conjunction with an enabling device in accordance with ISO 10218-1. The safety-related performance of the enabling device shall comply with 5.2. Whether the reduced speed value (250 mm/s) must be monitored by a safe control system must be determined by the risk assessment, in particular in relation to the accelerations possible in the event of a fault and the resulting stopping distances.
